Male choir of Vologda Regional Philharmonic Society won over Kirillov’s spectators!

The musicians sang ancient church chants, works of classical repertoire, part songs of modern composers, ancient romances, versions of pop songs in Kirillov within the framework of the Seventh Gavrilin International Music Festival.
The members of the male choir of the Vologda Regional Philharmonic Society named after V.A. Gavrilin brightened the conference hall of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve with their wonderful voices. Here, in the very heart of the Vologda region, they performed folk songs and filled the concert program “I Am from Here” with spiritual pieces!

Andrey Ovodov, artistic director and conductor of the choir, realized the remarkable potential of the male choir of the Vologda Regional Philharmonic Society, demonstrating the voices of the band in different variations. We saw the strong men singing the song-joke “In the Smithy” and heard the haulers working hard in “The Song of the Volga Boatmen”.
We were delighted with gentle and quivering voices of the men when they were glorifying the main woman in the world, “My Quiet, Tender and Kind Mother”. And we asked them to play as an encore the lively song “The Queen of Beauty”. The women in the hall livened up and sang this song from start to finish together with the choir.
The spectators of Kirillov were admired with the special colour of the male voices, the combination of enthusiasm of the youth and the thoughtful attitude to the executed compositions. They applauded after each song. The artists were at their best! As always, however! As is known, the choir was awarded the State Youth Prize in the Sphere of Culture and Art of the Vologda Region several years ago.
The male choir of the Vologda Regional Philharmonic Society has already presented the concert program “I Am from Here” in Vologda and Cherepovets. Now they will go to some other settlements of the region to tell about the internal harmony and determination to kindness and truth with the music of G.V. Sviridov and V. A. Gavrilin.
