The voice of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve could be heard in St. Petersburg! Its director general Mikhail Sharomazov has already read two lectures in the city on the Neva. And there is more to come. The next event is scheduled for November 17. It will begin in the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library at 12:00.

The first lecture and presentation of the Tsar’s fortress was given in the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, at the Department of Fine Arts. About 100 people, including students and teachers, attended the event. The topic of the lecture was “Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. 620 Years of History. 15th-Century Iconostasis of the Dormition Cathedral”.

Mikhail Sharomazov told about the life of St. Kirill and the foundation of the cloister in 1397. The audience learnt about the architectural monuments of the monastery, their restoration and some secrets of the monastery churches.

An almost detective story about the unique iconostasis of the Dormition Cathedral painted in the 15th century, its formation and the fate of the icons was a highlight of the lecture.

It was also very interesting to listen to the information about the Church of St. John Climacus and the Church of Transfiguration. The icons from these architectural monuments are the cultural heritage of the humanity that could easily decorate any museum of the world.

Residents of St. Petersburg had one more opportunity to learn about the sights of Kirillov.

Mikhail Sharomazov told about the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery in the year marking the anniversary of its foundation in one of the most prestigious halls of St. Petersburg - in the lecture hall of the St. Petersburg branch of the Russian Geographical Society!

And tomorrow, on November 17, the director general of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve will tell about the centuries-old history and cultural values of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery in the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library.
