Photo display of Vologda’s director, talented cameraman and photo artist Mikhail Makarov was opened during Art Festival “The Property of Republic”

Mikhail Makarov together with his colleagues D. Chernetsov and M. Barysheva made plenty of documentaries glorifying the beauty of our Motherland, character and soul of the Russians.

“Dionisy” holds a special place among the films that were made by M.N. Makarov. The film crew was awarded the State Prize of the RF in the sphere of literature and art in 2003 for this documentary shot on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the creation of Dionisy’s frescoes in the Ferapontov Monastery.

Since childhood, since that moment when his father gave him the first camera, Mikhail Makarov has been keen on photography.

He participated in various regional and interregional exhibitions of fine art photography many times.

Mikhail Makarov is interested in all genres of photography: landscape, portrait, still life, coverage and air photography. The beauty of the nature of the Vologda region and the grandeur of the monasteries are depicted in the exhibition works of Mikhail Makarov. The main subject of his creative activity has always been a person with his or her feelings. Visitors of the display can see portraits of not only famous figures of the Vologda region, but also usual people.

The exhibited photos of Mikhail Makarov are supplemented with thematic verse of the local poets: N. Rubtsov, V. Belov, O. Fokina, S. Vikulov, L. Mokievskaya and others.

Relatives and friends of the artist took part in the opening ceremony of the exhibition: Alexander Tsurkan, actor of the Taganka Theatre, Honoured Artist of the RF; Dmitry Chernetsov, head of the Vologda’s representative office of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia; Elena Shershen, member of the board of the Vologda Friendly Association in Moscow; A.V. Pavlov, first deputy head of the Vashki district; T.V. Soboleva, deputy head on social issues in the Vashki district; T.I. Sergeeva, representative of the Cherepovets City Administration; M.S. Serebryakova, art historian, veteran of the museum; and guests from Belozersk.

They congratulated the photo artist and expressed gratitude to the management of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve for a chance to see talented works of Mikhail Makarov in the Kirillov district because his career was chiefly connected with it.

The meeting with Dmitry Chernetsov, film director and head of the Vologda’s representative office of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, was also very interesting. Guests of the Art Festival “The Property of Republic” saw the premiere screening of the films “Dionisy. Artist’s Way” and “From Volok to Vologda”.

During the meeting, Dmitry Chernetsov told the audience about the history of creation of the documentary “Dionisy. Artist’s Way”.

“This film is the second part of the movie shot on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the creation of Dionisy’s frescoes. It’s been a long time. The first part of the film lives its own life: it is used in teaching in different universities and countries. Life does not stand still. A lot wasn’t used in the film. We had several unique interviews with Tonino Guerra, Albert Ovchinnikov, metropolitan Pitirim (Nechaev). We kept these materials during 10 years. It was a pity that spectators couldn’t see them because they were not included into the first part of the documentary. So we have made a more up-to-date, publicistic variant that is closer to life. It is a kind of cultural reflection about belief at present and about the artist’s destiny, his life and spiritual way”.
