Scheduled meeting of Initiative Council on Memorialization of Prince M.I. Vorotynsky took place in Kirillov

The off-site meeting of the Initiative Council on Memorialization of Prince Mikhail Ivanovich Vorotynsky was held on Friday, November 25. V.A. Sablin, dean of the History Department in Vologda State University, Doctor of Historical Sciences; V.P. Kuznechenkov, initiator of the council establishment; I.A. Smirnov, deputy director of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve; N.K. Maksutova, chairperson of the Vologda’s branch of the Russian Geographical Society; archpriest Alexei Sorokin, students of Vologda State University and the Vologda Ecclesiastical Seminary participated in the event.
They met with S.V. Usov, head of the Kirillov district, and discussed some issues of cooperation of the council with the district authorities, summed up results of the outgoing year and planned the main direction of work in 2017. S.V. Usov voiced his support of this work and collaboration with the Chekhov district on preservation of our history.
The members of the council visited the Dormition Cathedral – the main church of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. L.V. Terebova, head of the Scientific Department in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, conducted a tour for them and told about the unique complex of icons of the 15th-17th centuries from the iconostasis of the Dormition Cathedral and the cycle of monumental painting decorating the interior of the cathedral and the northern parvis.
A service for the dead was performed by Alexei Sorokin, dean of the Church of St. Lazarus in Vologda, in the Сhurch of St. Vladimir – the burial place of the Vorotynskys.
