Veterans visiting exhibition in People’s House

The veterans made a tour of the display and watched a film telling about the first stage of the art project: preparation of a field, haystacks, arrangement of works and the exhibition itself. The museum guests learnt that both professional artists and their children and just people who were interested in art and had some creative works demonstrated them in the open plain. Their articles are exhibited in the museum at the second stage.

The visitors were delighted with the works made in various techniques (painting, drawing, sculpture, mosaic, weaving, carving and others). They admired wonderful landscapes and still lifes, portraits and art objects, collages, textile panels, door mats, clothing.

The veterans especially liked the “rural corner” where they could see pictures glorifying simple happy moments of village life. A wooden statue of the button accordion player occupies a central place on this ground.

It is worth noting that this event was arranged within the framework of the program “Senior Citizens in Museum”. It has been successfully implemented for several years. According to M.N. Travnikova, curator of this program, employee of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, the main forms of museum work with veterans are thematic tours, traditional meetings of museum veterans, meet-the-artist events, charity actions for elderly people, concerts, museum holidays, season tickets and lectures.

“Veterans are our pride, we must think and take care of them. The role of the museum in the introduction of senior citizens to the study of history and culture is great. We are always glad to see you in the museum, dear veterans”, noted M.N. Travnikova.
